Website Maintenance: What It Includes and Why It Pays Off
A website is never finished. What maintenance covers, the warning signs you need it, and what happens when a site is left alone for a year.

A website is not a brochure
A printed brochure stays the same after you print it. A website does not. The software it runs on gets updates, browsers change, security problems are found and your own business changes. A site left alone for a year or two slowly becomes slower, less secure and less accurate.
What maintenance usually includes
- Software updates. The platform, plugins and libraries your site depends on need regular updates. Old versions are the most common way sites get hacked.
- Security monitoring. Checking for malware, suspicious logins and expired security certificates, and fixing problems quickly.
- Backups. Regular copies of the site and its data stored somewhere safe, with a tested way to restore them.
- Uptime monitoring. Knowing the site is down before your customers tell you.
- Speed checks. Photos grow, scripts pile up and pages slow down over time. A speed review keeps visitors and search rankings healthy.
- Content changes. New prices, photos, opening hours and offers, made for you.
- Support. A real person you can ask when something looks wrong.
Warning signs you need it
- Your site is slower than it used to be
- Your browser shows a "not secure" warning
- A form or button no longer works
- Pages show old prices or opening hours
- You do not know when it was last backed up
- Nobody can tell you who to call if it goes down
What happens when it is ignored
Outdated software can be hacked, spam can fill your forms, security certificates expire and customers see a warning page instead of your site. Recovering a hacked site without a backup can cost far more than maintenance would have in a year. Search rankings can slip as pages slow down or break.
What does maintenance cost?
Estimates for agency-built sites range from hundreds to a few thousand dollars per year, depending on how complex the site is (WebWave). At DgtalBlend, website maintenance is $100 a month, mobile app maintenance is $120 a month and a combined website and app plan is $180 a month. It is optional and you can see the plans on our pricing page.
Maintenance versus doing it yourself
If you are comfortable with the technical side, you can do much of this yourself. Be honest about the time it takes, and about who covers it when you are travelling or busy. For most business owners, a clear monthly price and a single person responsible is worth more than the saving.
Questions to ask before you sign
- What exactly is included each month?
- How often are backups taken and how long are they kept?
- How fast do you respond when the site is down?
- Are small content changes included?
- Can I cancel, and do I keep everything if I do?

If we built your website, you can add maintenance to the project from your client portal. If your site was built somewhere else, talk to us about taking care of it. If you are planning a new site, see what a website really costs in Northern Cyprus so the yearly costs are not a surprise.
